The length of the growth cycle of garlic varies greatly depending on the sowing period. The growth period of garlic sown in spring is relatively short, generally 90~110d; garlic sown in autumn has to go through a certain number of days of low temperature vernalization, and the growth period is generally 220~280d. Garlic generally uses bulbs as propagation material, and garlic generally uses bulbs as propagation material. Its growth process can be divided into 6 periods, namely, germination, seedling, bulb and flower bud differentiation, flower stem elongation, bulb expansion, and dormancy. . In addition, when using aerial bulbs to reproduce, there is a growing period of aerial bulb enlargement after the underground bulb matures.
The period from sowing to the basal leaves growing out of the soil is the germination period. Generally, garlic germinates after 10-15 days of sowing. The roots of the germination period mainly grow vertically, with the longest root being more than 1cm and the number of roots growing up to more than 30 . The period from the development of the first true leaf to the beginning of the differentiation of flower buds and scale buds is the seedling stage. It only takes 25 days for spring sowing garlic to pass the seedling stage. Autumn sowing garlic includes the overwintering period, which requires up to 5-6 months of nutrition Growth lays the material foundation for the differentiation of scale buds and flower buds. Plant vegetative bodies during the differentiation stage of bulb and flower buds are fully grown, root growth is enhanced, plant height and leaf area growth is accelerated, and nutrient accumulation increases, laying a material foundation for the growth of garlic sprouts and bulbs. After the flower bud differentiation is over, the garlic sprouts grow rapidly, and the scale buds begin to swell. The leaf area and plant growth reach the maximum, and vegetative growth and reproductive growth go hand in hand. This period is a critical period for the formation and development of product organs, and sufficient fertilizer and water should be ensured. After the garlic sprouts are harvested, a large amount of nutrients are transferred to the bulbs, and the bulbs expand rapidly. After the bulb matures, it enters a physiological dormancy period of more than 2 months.
